Q. Why are superiors called "father and mother" in the Fifth Commandment?

答：

Answer:

This teaches that all who are in authority should care for those under them with love, gentleness, and patience, just as parents care for their children. It also teaches that those under authority should willingly honor them, just as children honor their parents.

The real issue in the Fifth Commandment is not the ability of the person in authority, but God's appointed order.

Therefore, we honor our parents not merely because they are worthy, but because God commands us to do so.

Likewise, we respect church elders, lawful government, teachers, and employers because God has established these relationships.
