We should not automatically assume that someone will be a good ruler simply because he often quotes the Bible.
可以采用的判断顺序
A Helpful Order for Evaluation
第一,看他是否尊重生命、公义和基本法律秩序。
First, examine whether he respects life, justice, and basic legal order.
第二,看他是否保护宗教自由和良心自由。
Second, examine whether he protects religious freedom and freedom of conscience.
第三,看他是否诚实、廉洁、有能力并且愿意接受权力限制。
Third, examine whether he is honest, free from corruption, competent, and willing to accept limits on power.
第四,看他的实际政策和治理记录,而不只听竞选口号。
Fourth, examine his actual policies and record, not only his campaign words.
第五,再考虑他的信仰是否会帮助或破坏以上这些责任。
Fifth, consider whether his faith will strengthen or weaken these responsibilities.
几种具体情况
Several Practical Situations
情况一
Situation One
一位候选人是真诚的基督徒,也有能力、诚实、公义,并且支持宗教自由。
One candidate is a sincere Christian who is also capable, honest, just, and supportive of religious freedom.
这通常会是一个很有分量的选择。
This would normally be a very strong choice.
情况二
Situation Two
一位候选人自称基督徒,但腐败、撒谎、滥用权力,并且践踏别人的自由。
One candidate calls himself a Christian but is corrupt, dishonest, abusive of power, and willing to violate the freedom of others.
基督徒不应仅因他的宗教身份而支持他。
Christians should not support him merely because of his religious identity.
情况三
Situation Three
一位穆斯林或其他宗教的候选人承诺保护所有人的宗教自由,并且在公义、能力和廉洁方面明显更好。
A Muslim or other non-Christian candidate promises to protect religious freedom for everyone and is clearly stronger in justice, competence, and integrity.
基督徒可以在良心中考虑投票给他。
A Christian may consider voting for that person in good conscience.
但必须认真判断,他是否真正尊重基督徒的自由,而不只是竞选时这样说。
But the Christian should carefully judge whether he truly respects Christian freedom and is not only saying this during the election.
情况四
Situation Four
一位坚定的伊斯兰教候选人希望把伊斯兰宗教法律强加给整个社会,并限制基督徒传福音。
A committed Muslim candidate wants to impose Islamic religious law on the whole society and restrict Christian evangelism.
这种政策与宗教自由和基督徒良心明显冲突。
Such policies clearly conflict with religious freedom and Christian conscience.
基督徒通常不应支持这样的候选人。
Christians ordinarily should not support such a candidate.
改革宗总结
Reformed Summary
基督徒应当优先寻求敬畏神、诚实、有能力、公义并尊重宗教自由的候选人。
Christians should prefer candidates who fear God, are honest, capable, just, and respectful of religious freedom.
但是,不能只因为一个人自称基督徒,就自动投票给他。
But a person should not receive a Christian’s vote automatically merely because he calls himself a Christian.
