In 2 Peter 3:12, "hastening the coming of the day of God" does not mean that Christians can change the time God has already fixed.
Reformed theology teaches that God's eternal plan never changes. However, God ordains both the final result and the means to reach it. Preaching the gospel, praying, living holy lives, and serving faithfully are all part of God's plan. We are not changing God's plan; we are obeying God and taking part in the work He has already planned.
