Lesson 26: Every Believer Has Gifts and the Great Commission

2026-08-15

Statement of Faith

We believe that every Christian should serve according to the different gifts he or she has received (Romans 12:3–8).

But we also believe that the Great Commission is given to all Christians. Every believer should take part in it according to the gifts received, depending on the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:18–20).

I. Different Gifts, One Body

Romans 12:3–8

English — WEB:

For I say through the grace that was given me, to every man who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think reasonably, as God has apportioned to each person a measure of faith.

English:

For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members don’t have the same function,

English:

so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

中文:

按我们所得的恩赐,各有不同。或说预言,就当照着信心的程度说预言;

English:

Having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, if prophecy, let’s prophesy according to the proportion of our faith;

中文:

或作执事,就当专一执事;或作教导的,就当专一教导;

English:

or service, let’s give ourselves to service; or he who teaches, to his teaching;

English:

or he who exhorts, to his exhorting; he who gives, let him do it with generosity; he who rules, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Short Explanation

God does not give exactly the same gifts to every person.

Some are good at teaching, some at serving, some at encouraging, some at giving, some at leading, and some especially show mercy.

Therefore, we should not think we are useless because our gifts are different from those of others.

We should also not look down on people whose gifts are different from ours.

Gifts are not given for comparison. They are given for service.

II. Gifts Are Different, but the Great Commission Is for All

English:

Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.”

English:

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

English:

“teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Short Explanation

The Great Commission is first based on the authority of Christ.

We share the gospel not because we have power in ourselves, but because Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth.

The Great Commission is not only about “getting people to believe in Jesus.” It is about “making disciples.”

Preaching the gospel.

Leading people to faith in Christ.

Helping believers become part of the church.

Teaching them to obey everything Christ commanded.

Helping them grow in Christ.

Gifts are different, but no Christian is excluded from the Great Commission.

A pastor takes part in the Great Commission in his way.

A teacher takes part in it through teaching.

Parents can teach their children at home.

A hospitable person can reach people through hospitality.

A person gifted in service can witness to Christ through practical help.

Not everyone does the same thing, but everyone should take part.
