美国真的非常开放吗？ / Is America Really So Liberal?

很多人都说，美国是一个非常开放的国家。

Many people say America is a very liberal country.

那么，美国真的像我们想象的那么开放吗？

But is America really as liberal as we think?

我们现在生活在加州。

We now live in California.

加州通常被认为是美国文化和社会观念比较开放的州之一。

California is often seen as one of the more liberal states in America.

一些在美国生活了几十年的华人告诉我，美国以前和现在很不一样。

Some Chinese people who have lived in America for decades told me that America used to be very different.

他们说，大约三十年前，很多地方一到晚上就安静下来了。

They said that about thirty years ago, many places became quiet at night.

很多商店比较早关门，人们晚上回到自己的家里。

Many stores closed earlier, and people went home at night.

到了星期天，很多人会去教堂。

On Sundays, many people went to church.

所以，他们觉得以前的美国社会比现在更加保守。

So they feel American society was more conservative in the past.

那么，我们自己看到的美国是什么样的呢？

So what have we seen in America ourselves?

我们已经在这里生活了两年多。

We have lived here for more than two years.

至少从我们的日常生活来看，美国和我以前想象的并不完全一样。

At least in our daily life, America is not exactly what I imagined before.

我并没有看到到处都是KTV、歌舞厅或者所谓的红灯区。

I do not see KTVs, dance clubs, or so-called red-light districts everywhere.

普通人的生活其实很简单。

The daily life of ordinary people is actually quite simple.

很多人每天就是上班、下班、买东西，然后回家。

Many people simply go to work, finish work, shop, and then go home.

但是，有一个变化还是很明显。

But one change is still very clear.

现在很多人工作得更晚，商店营业的时间也更长。

Today, many people work later, and stores stay open longer.

很多新移民开的商店也是如此。

Many stores run by new immigrants are the same.

天黑以后，他们仍然继续营业。

They are still open after dark.

星期六当然有很多商店营业。

Of course, many stores are open on Saturday.

甚至到了星期天，很多商店仍然照常做生意。

Even on Sunday, many stores continue to do business as usual.

从传统基督教文化来看，星期天曾经是一个非常特别的日子。

In traditional Christian culture, Sunday used to be a very special day.

基督徒在主日去教会敬拜上帝。

Christians went to church to worship God on the Lord's Day.

家庭也有更多时间休息和团聚。

Families also had more time to rest and be together.

但是今天，商业生活越来越少受到这种传统的影响。

But today, business life is less influenced by this tradition.

所以，也许真正的问题不是：“美国到底开放不开放？”

So maybe the real question is not, “Is America liberal or conservative?”

而是：“美国正在发生什么变化？”

Maybe the question is, “How is America changing?”

过去的美国受到基督教文化更深的影响。

America in the past was more deeply influenced by Christian culture.

今天的美国则更加世俗化，也更加商业化。

America today is more secular and more commercial.

但与此同时，美国社会仍然保留着很多传统和保守的生活方式。

At the same time, American society still keeps many traditional and conservative ways of life.

所以，美国不是简单的“开放”，也不是简单的“保守”。

So America is not simply “liberal,” and it is not simply “conservative.”

它是一个传统与现代、宗教与世俗、家庭与商业同时存在的社会。

It is a society where tradition and modern life, religion and secular life, family and business all exist together.

那么，在你看来，今天的美国究竟是越来越开放了，还是越来越世俗化了？
