This is very suitable for family Bible study. It corrects a common misunderstanding: the gospel truly saves sinners, but human salvation is not its final goal. The final goal is God’s glory, kingdom, and will.

English (ESL):
We believe that the gospel is the power of God. By grace, God freely saves sinners through the gospel.
But we also believe that the gospel is for God’s holy name, God’s kingdom, and God’s will (Matthew 6:9–10).
God saves us to restore His image in us (Ephesians 4:24).
He sets us apart for Himself (Isaiah 43:7, 21; 1 John 5:19).
He makes us His children and His servants (Malachi 1:6; Hebrews 2:10; Revelation 22:3).
In the end, God will bring all things together under Christ (Ephesians 1:10).
二、第一层：福音确实是神拯救罪人的大能
1. The Gospel Truly Is God’s Power to Save Sinners
罗马书 Romans 1:16
“我不以福音为耻；这福音本是神的大能，要救一切相信的……”
ESL English:
Paul is not ashamed of the gospel, because the gospel is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes.
以弗所书 Ephesians 2:8–9
“你们得救是本乎恩，也因着信；这并不是出于自己，乃是神所赐的；也不是出于行为，免得有人自夸。”
ESL English:
We are saved by grace through faith. Salvation does not come from our good works. It is God’s gift, so no one can boast.

福音首先告诉我们：人不能救自己，唯有基督能够救我们。
The gospel first tells us that we cannot save ourselves. Only Christ can save us.
但是问题来了：
神为什么救我们？仅仅为了让我们不上地狱、上天堂吗？
But here is an important question:
Why does God save us? Is it only so that we do not go to hell and can go to heaven?
圣经的答案更大。
神救我们，最终是为了祂自己的荣耀。
The Bible gives a much bigger answer.
God saves us ultimately for His own glory.
三、第二层：福音首先是为了神的名、神的国、神的旨意
2. The Gospel Is for God’s Name, Kingdom, and Will
马太福音 Matthew 6:9–10
“所以，你们祷告要这样说：我们在天上的父：愿人都尊你的名为圣。愿你的国降临；愿你的旨意行在地上，如同行在天上。”
ESL English:
Jesus teaches us to pray first for three things:
May God’s name be holy.
May God’s kingdom come.
May God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
这里的次序非常重要。
Notice the order. It is very important.
耶稣没有首先教我们说：
“愿我的生活舒服，愿我的事业成功，愿我的问题全部解决。”
Jesus does not first teach us to pray:
“Make my life comfortable. Make my work successful. Solve all my problems.”

Instead:

This is a basic change in a saved person:
from “me” to “God.”
四、第三层：救恩要恢复神在人里面的形象
3. Salvation Restores God’s Image in Us
以弗所书 Ephesians 4:22–24
“就要脱去你们从前行为上的旧人，这旧人是因私欲的迷惑渐渐变坏的；又要将你们的心志改换一新，并且穿上新人；这新人是照着神的形像造的，有真理的仁义和圣洁。”
ESL English:
We must put off the old self, which is corrupted by sinful desires.
God renews our minds, and we put on the new self.
This new life is made according to God’s likeness, in righteousness and holiness.
一个很重要的改革宗观点
An Important Reformed Point
人的问题不只是：
“我犯了一些罪。”
Man’s problem is not only:
“I have committed some sins.”
更深的问题是：
罪败坏了整个人。
The deeper problem is:
Sin has corrupted the whole person.
所以救恩也不仅仅是神宣布：
“你的罪赦免了。”
Therefore salvation is not merely God saying:
“Your sins are forgiven.”
神还要借着圣灵使我们不断成圣，越来越像基督。
God also sanctifies us through the Holy Spirit and makes us more and more like Christ.

称义与成圣必须区分，却绝不能分开。
This is an important Reformed distinction:
Justification and sanctification must be distinguished, but they must never be separated.
五、第四层：神救我们，是要我们归祂自己
4. God Saves Us for Himself
以赛亚书 Isaiah 43:7
“就是凡称为我名下的人，是我为自己的荣耀创造的，是我所做成，所造作的。”
ESL English:
God says that His people are called by His name.
He created them for His glory.
以赛亚书 Isaiah 43:21
“这百姓是我为自己所造的，好述说我的美德。”
ESL English:
God formed His people for Himself, so that they may declare His praise.
这是理解救恩目的非常重要的经文。
These verses are very important for understanding the purpose of salvation.
注意三个词：
“为自己的荣耀”——“为自己所造”——“述说我的美德”。
Notice these three ideas:
for My glory — for Myself — to declare My praise.
因此，基督教不是一种以人为中心的宗教：
信耶稣 → 神帮助我 → 我生活得更成功 → 我更加幸福。
Christianity is not a man-centered religion:
Believe in Jesus → God helps me → I become more successful → I have a happier life.
圣经的方向是：
神创造我 → 我犯罪离开神 → 基督救赎我 → 圣灵更新我 → 我重新归属于神 → 我的生命荣耀神。
The biblical direction is:
God created me → I sinned and turned away → Christ redeemed me → the Holy Spirit renews me → I belong to God again → my life glorifies God.
六、第五层：“使人归主为圣”是什么意思？
5. What Does It Mean to Be Set Apart for God?
约翰一书 1 John 5:19
“我们知道，我们是属神的，全世界都卧在那恶者手下。”
ESL English:
We know that we belong to God, while the world lies under the power of the evil one.
这里出现了两个完全不同的归属：
属神 vs. 属世界、卧在恶者权势之下。
There are two very different kingdoms:
belonging to God vs. belonging to the fallen world under evil.
因此，“圣洁”的基本含义不只是：

The basic meaning of holiness is not only:
“I sin less than before.”

More importantly:
“I am set apart and belong to God.”

A Christian cannot rightly say:
“Jesus saved me, but my life still completely belongs to me.”

“你们不是自己的人，因为你们是重价买来的。”
The principle of 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 is:
We do not belong to ourselves. Christ bought us at a great price.
七、第六层：神不但称我们为儿女，也呼召我们作仆人
6. God Makes Us His Children and His Servants
这是今天特别值得孩子理解的一点：
“神的儿女”和“神的仆人”并不矛盾。
This is especially important for children to understand:
Being God’s child and being God’s servant are not opposites.
玛拉基书 Malachi 1:6
“藐视我名的祭司啊，万军之耶和华对你们说：儿子尊敬父亲，仆人敬畏主人；我既为父亲，尊敬我的在哪里呢？我既为主人，敬畏我的在哪里呢？”
ESL English:
A son should honor his father, and a servant should respect his master.
God is both our Father and our Lord. Therefore, His people should honor Him.
这节经文把两种关系放在一起：

The verse puts two relationships together:
Father → children → love and honor
Master → servants → obedience and reverence

The true gospel contains both.

7. Hebrews: Christ Brings Many Sons to Glory
希伯来书 Hebrews 2:10
“原来那为万物所属、为万物所本的，要领许多的儿子进荣耀里去……”
ESL English:
Everything exists for God and through God.
God is bringing many sons and daughters into glory through Christ.
注意这里的方向：
罪人 → 基督 → 神的儿女 → 荣耀。
Notice the direction:
sinners → Christ → children of God → glory.
救恩不是神简单地把我们恢复到亚当犯罪以前。
Salvation does not simply return us to Adam’s condition before the Fall.
在基督里，神把我们带向最终的荣耀。
In Christ, God is bringing us toward final glory.
九、第七层：天堂不是“什么都不用做”，而是永远事奉神
8. Heaven Is Not Doing Nothing — We Will Serve God Forever
启示录 Revelation 22:3
“以后再没有咒诅；在城里有神和羔羊的宝座；他的仆人都要事奉他。”
ESL English:
There will no longer be any curse.
God and the Lamb will reign, and His servants will serve Him.
这是非常美的一节经文。
This is a beautiful verse.
罪进入世界以后，工作充满劳苦、挫折和咒诅。
After sin entered the world, work became filled with pain, frustration, and the curse.
但是到了新天新地：
咒诅没有了，事奉却仍然存在。
But in the new creation:
the curse is gone, but service remains.
所以天堂不是：
“终于什么都不用做了。”
Heaven is not:
“At last, I never have to do anything again.”
而是：
我们终于能够完全、喜乐、没有罪地事奉神。
Instead:
We will finally serve God perfectly, joyfully, and without sin.

9. The Great Final Goal — All Things United in Christ
以弗所书 Ephesians 1:9–10
“都是照他自己所预定的美意，叫我们知道他旨意的奥秘，要照所安排的，在日期满足的时候，使天上、地上、一切所有的都在基督里面同归于一。”
ESL English:
God has revealed His plan and purpose.
When the right time comes, He will bring all things in heaven and on earth together under Christ.
这把我们的眼光一下子从：
“我怎样得救？”
提升到了：
“整个宇宙最后要怎样？”
This moves our eyes from:
“How can I be saved?”
to:
“What is God going to do with the whole creation?”
答案是：
基督。
The answer is:
Christ.

“I was going to hell. Jesus saved me. Now I can go to heaven.”

The full picture is:

This sentence can summarize our whole study tonight.
神不是为了成就“我的人生计划”而存在。
God does not exist to fulfill my life plan.

Instead:
God created me, Christ redeemed me, and the Holy Spirit renews me. Therefore, my life should become part of God’s purpose.

A fuller answer is:
God created me, but sin separated me from Him. Jesus Christ came to save me and forgive my sins. He brings me back to God and makes me God’s child. I can know Him, love Him, obey Him, serve Him, glorify Him, and one day live with Him forever.
